Echo cs-600 series muffler part numbers
« on: October 08, 2014, 07:53:51 am »
Hey Y'all-

I wanted to ask if anyone can give any comments about the different muffler part numbers that are listed on the echo IPL's. All have the 59 cc engine.
Here's a chart I made:

saw                         muffler #                 inner deflector YES/NO
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
cs-590                      A300001570                      NO
cs-600P (early)         A300000770                    YES
cs-600P (current)     A300001570                     YES
cs-620P                    A300001810                      NO

Also, I noticed the part numbers for the outer deflectors is not the same for these models.

Has the mounting or cylinder shape changed between these saws? Or are some part# better flowing, or catalytic converter types? Thanks again. ???

Hey- Thanks again, I really like this saw, I got to use one of the early plastic handle 600's and was really impressed. I think it was almost as strong as my grey 670. Now they have an improved version of that one, the 680. Frustrating when you buy a saw and then an improved version shows up a little bit afterwards. ;)

I have several Echos and they are nothing but the best.

On the 680. First there was the 6700 ( I have one) then the 670 then 680. Thats what happens over the many years of being in service.  Updates are a good thing most times.  ;)

Hey again-

Yes, I'm going to just be happy with my 670, it does everything I ask of it without any issues, I really like that the fuel tank is aluminum (mag?) and the manual override oiler, it is a tank. I need to stop looking at the 680.

i can only speak first hand on the cs-590 (early).

from what i see on my saw, it came equipped with an inner deflector.  maybe have a pic of this somewhere.

pic: http://chainsawrepair.createaforum.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=3434.0;attach=8108;image

on the cs-590 there are two different IPL's:
early-Serial Number: C25812001001 to C25812999999
late  -Serial Number: C25913001001 to C25913999999

on the early IPL: the inner exhaust guide part #A313000020 is no longer available.  the outer exhast guide alternative part # that is currently available is part #A313000120.

my saw is loud enough already, with the inner guide in place.  don't feel the need to take it off, to make even more noise.

maybe checking muffler gasket part #'s you can find if the different mufflers interchange between models 590, 600, 620???

have not been inside my muffler, but word on the street is that it has some kind of tube gizmo within.

regards
-joe

I have an early 600p, its muffler has two baffles bolted on where the exhaust leaves the can.  One of the pieces looks to be a screen holder and the other directs the flow.  This muffler appears a little different than some of the others that Ive seen in that it has an internal vertical divider/baffle running near the edges of the can about half way through the depth of flow.  The exhaust flows from the cylinder straight into the muffler then through holes in this vertical baffle, then up the front cover and out.  Its not that loud and flows well.

After the initial supply of 600p build parts had been used, Echo advertised that they had redesigned the 600p engine for added fuel economy/torque.  This is also when we began to see the 590 and 620 versions.  Im sure there were changes made at this time to the cylinders and so on.

My muffler appears internally different than the one in the video;

Hey-  Great information, thank you! The video is very helpful. I had another thought about the part numbers. I know sometimes companies will update part #'s for reasons other than that the part is actually different or changed. Sometimes it's for their internal purposes. Maybe this is the case here. Anyway it is interesting to see the evolution of this model.

It's strange that a baffle (arranged vertically) with many holes can actually not restrict flow that much but is very effective at reducing sound levels. I have a trimmer with this type of baffle and on this older model the muffler is able to be completely dissassembled for cleaning etc... I left the baffle out as an experiment and the only change in performance was the sound level was somewhat louder. I put the baffle back in since for trimming it's nicer to have less noise.

I think the biggest factor is the surface area of the outlet in relation to the overall design.
