ECHO SRM 2400
« on: July 03, 2013, 10:00:24 pm »
I have several Echo yard tools - a Echo PB-2400 Blower, SRM-2100 trimmer, SRM-2400 trimmer, and a TC-210 rotor tiller. I really like the little Echos.
The only one of these I bought new is the rotor tiller. The other three were opportunistic stumble upons or non running freebies.

Today, I got out the 2100 straight shaft string trimmer and straightened out the kinked line in the head. I gassed it up and whacked all around the house but got caught out back in a rain shower. Waiting out the rain shower in the barn with the kitty cat, I got out the 2400 straight shaft string trimmer. I started it up and adjusted the needles etc while it was raining. I just used the 2400 last week but I didn't like the way the needles were set today. I suspicion that the metering valve diaphragm is getting stiff?

When the rain shower quit, I saw some weeds I missed under the utility trailer so I went out with the 2400 and whacked them away.

So I had a grand afternoon piddling around with my little Echos.

I've had a lot of different brands of trimmers. I've also got a couple newer home owner Stihls. The other trimmer that I liked real well was the little Homelite Bandit trimmer. It was rather basic with no clutch and a curved shaft. But it is not the trimmer that the Echos and Stihls are. The worst ones I've had were the Weed Eater brand with the various Ryobi types coming in second worst. I've never had the pleasure of owning a Husqvarna or Dolmar weed whacker.

That's it.

I'll have to bring it over some time and let your wife use it and give you a report on how it compares?

Well, I can bring it over and you and I will compare them out back.

Before this Echo, I had a little MTD four stroke for 40 years. It had a #35 chain from the tines up to the clutch pulley. I had to put new tines on it a couple times and a clutch belt on it once.

The honda lower unit was made by Hoffco with a brass worm grear. Thats what would wear out on them. AKA the weak link on the Honda mini tillers IMO
