Echo 370 First time chainsaw owner
« on: October 02, 2013, 02:41:57 pm »
Okay so I just bought my first chainsaw and im having a problem, its an Echo CS 370, I just recieved it yesterday and got it put together and I tried to cut a peice of wood in half and its not cutting properly,  it seems to be burning the wood more than cutting it, I have a chainsaw that I borrowed from my uncle and its an older homelite and I tried that one and it cut right through the log, is it possible that the chain is just bad? I also saw on a different forum someone said that when you buy a new chainsaw they are set to 'lean' and to "pull the limiter cap and adjust thw richer" but I dont know what that means or how to do it, if someone could please help me out id realpy appreciate it.

New saw new chain?  Chain on backwards?

Used saw?  Did you sharpen the chain?  Is the chain on backwards?

I have seen new saws set very lean and had to adjust from get go.

either you hit something that pooched the chain right away or you have the chain on backwards? that little 'shark fin' is supposed to be  in front of the cutter, not behind :)
and yes. they are usually pretty lean out of the box. I highly recommend getting it properly tuned at a good shop.
when I grow up, i wanna be an adult.

I dont know what is on the carb H L on the echo 370.   Never had one in my hands.  Here is what I found.  The IPL shows what  appears to be a adjustable carb.  Dont mess with carb till you figure out why your chain isnt cutting IMO.

Chain is on BACKWARDS  if 2 holes in bar are toward tip and the top of pic is top of bar and E is facing powerhead. .

It is, how can you tell when putting a new chain on?
