Power Pruner won't extend
« on: April 15, 2012, 10:35:57 am »
Hi, I have an older Echo Power Pruner pole saw. Got it used from a closing rental shop so it probably has a few miles on it. 12" bar and hedger attachment. Run great but seems to vibrate a bit much from the drive to the head. (I'm comparing to a Stihl HT75 pole saw I purchased and maintained since new) So my problem though is that the drive will not stay engaged when I try to "telecope / extend" the pole. Anyone have any experience with these? I've had the dang thing apart twice and lubed it and put a new spring in it but I am apparently missing something. The internal drive shaft just won't follow the external housing. Appreciate any insight! I Know... I should be posting a picture but have to take it apart AGAIN to post anything relevant. Maybe someone has an idea to get me motivated one more time?? Thanks Ed

I'm just learning these myself. What is your model?

I figured out today getting my 261 ready to use why it has been hard to cold start since I got it.  Simple fix and Duh on me not catching it 2 years ago.

Hi, mine is a model PP1250. According to my paperwork it is Feb. 1997 vintage. I replaced what was called the floating push assembly (a spring) but no change in function. (Lack of) Didn't see aything wrong with the origional anyway. I must be missing something easy? When it's apart it looks fairly staightforward with a male / female spline drive that I have relubricated such that in my opinion moves freely........Kind of a pain to disassemble and reassemble so I'm not all that enthusiastic at this point to do it again since it works fine unextended but stuff that "ain't right" keeps me up at night!! All thought are appreciated. Thanks Ed

I have an older Power Pruner with the silver metal telescope housing and 5ft extension.  It has a new style cutting head on it with the opaque plastic chain oil reservoir.  The engine is marked TT-24A up under the air cleaner housing along the engine casting edge where the flywheel would be.  This one has a metal drive shaft inside the housing, female over male which telescopes.  Only thing I can think of is your driveshaft is sticking?  Maybe take it apart again and look closely at the shafts, when you took it apart to lube it up did you get it back together correctly?  Only other thing could be the coupling where the housing pulls out.  Maybe its not releasing correctly there?  Some of these had star style drive shafts that used an adapter to attach to the clutch and cutting head.  I wouldnt think your unit would work if those are attached correctly though.
