Do I have to order the chain based on the exact drive link count specified by the bar (in this case 66)?

Yes and make sure same gage and pitch as bar. If bar 050 you want 050 chain. If 058 get 058. 3/8 etc.

Obviously your Stihl guy only deals with consumers, no pro users. Is there a full dealer in your area that knows chain?

Yea that's my guess too Roy. We have one other lawn and garden shop around here and when I gave them an oregon chain part number they said "oh that crosses with our part no. xxxxxx". To which I said no, I'd like the actual oregon product please, and he said "We're an Oregon dealer, but we bring in locally made chain in bulk at a fraction of the cost and its waaay better than anything made by oregon or stihl, or whatever came on your Echo". I just chuckled and walked out. I bet Oregon wouldn't appreciate knowing their distributors are pushing house brands over their own.

With customer service like that I would rather give my business to an online vendor anyways!

Oregon owns Windsor now days, which may be what chain he is talking about in bulk?

Blount owns Oregon and the rest fall under Blount now?  http://www.oregonproducts.com/homeowner/company/history.htm

You wouldnt believe what was traded into me yesterday for several chain resharpens.  New 20" 70DL 3/8 050 D176 Oregan laminated bar.  Safety type chain though.  Guy did some horse trading for it and turned out it didnt even fit his D009 mount saws after he got home. So I took it in from him for my labor, as I can always use or pass them on.

Just looked not a pro lite and the dreaded 72SL safety chain for sure, looks like semi chisel too.

Typical hey, too bad him and I didn't cross paths, the bar that came on this echo was a H009 mount. We could have traded and both ended up with the right one! I just got the call from the dealer, my powermatch came in today! Thanks for all the tips. Ordered some DPX semi-chisel yellow chain from Frawleys, should be here soon too.
