Upgrade a VL to an EVL?
« on: July 22, 2014, 07:02:14 pm »
Is it possible to upgrade an Echo VL saw to an EVL?
Easily?
Readily available parts?
Plug and Play?
Specifically a 702VL

Thanks for info.
Chuck

I have a 702EVL if you ever want to compare stuff.  Otherwise I am clueless to the switch over.

I would keep the points ignition as its easier to fix.  Most of the EVL ignition parts were obsoleted when Shindaiwa and Echo merged so theyre getting like hens teeth.

What do you need, points and condenser?

Just thought of something else -
Echo like Stihl offered an electronic trigger to replace the points.  Like the Atom or Nova trigger;

Using this concept the points and condenser are replaced by the trigger.  You would continue to use the original flywheel and coil.

Thanks Sharkey.
I currently do not need the parts.
Looking at picking up a cheap saw and looking at future possible repairs.
The Nova Ignition module is interesting,
Might pick one up to see if it will work on my Stihl 031.
Thanks again.

Some Stihls need the module mounted with the polarity reversed and others, the timing will be way off or both situations.
