Duck Call By Great Scott
« on: October 10, 2015, 07:20:38 am »
Ducks....yup, ducks.

This is probably my favorite pastime, making ducks calls.  Well, right after running my sawmill.  At least it gives me something to do when the rain is hammering down.  Not sure anyone likes to be out in the rain cutting timber and milling it, unless it's about 105*F....then it's a welcome rain.

Only problem with making them....I have to find new homes for them in order to be able to make more!  And the 'one-that-must-be-obeyed' has indicated that I must get rid of some.......NOW.  Luckily for me Arkansas duck season is only a month away.  So, if y'all know anyone....

Pics are always fun!

BTW, I have a LOT of them.....did I mention, she wants them to go away?

No ducks around here.  Do you make turkey calls?

No ducks?  Eck!  That's a bummer, ducks are here all year long....guess a few of them are getting lazy and don't fly back north for the summer?

Turkey calls....not yet.  I have just about all the tooling to turn some, but just haven't got 'tuit' yet.  I can tell ya, the amount of time it takes to make one and the materials that people want them to be made out of anymore is getting 'crazy'!  I rough turned a Eastern Red Cedar, sanded it to finish, and applied a clear lacquer....just to see what it would look like if I decided to go that way with them.  Showed it to a few, and the feedback was less then 'nice'....go figure?

Maybe someday down the road.....

I do not have any use for a duck call but I can see you you do really nice work.    I like things that are made at home by a craftsman such as yourself.   Very nice.

If I have to mail them...$48 via PayPal, shipped Priority
Can tune either Open Water single reed or Timber double reed - I use Echo inserts.
Can get 4 into a flat rate parcel, so calls 2, 3, and 4 would be an additional $42 each[edited for an additional word here]

If someone is local, no PayPal fees and shipping added...$40
I have 16 calls ready to go right now, they can all be seen at FaceBook page: https://www.facebook.com/GreatScott777

I will check them out. My friend and I copy catted a Faulk's call in shop class. It was way back in high school.  I have 2 black walnut logs cut that I was gonna get a chunk out of for a friend to turn some calls.

Not trying to sound cheap lol. Just trying to figure out 2+2. $48 for one shipped. 3 more for an additional $42 =$90.  Or $48 +126= $174
