360
« on: January 26, 2013, 11:15:50 am »
I've got all 3 of my 360's running properly. I have one that will not oil properly. I've put a new line on it and ran a little kerosine through it. I'd have been happy with the amount of kerosine that went through it...if it were bar oil. Is there an adjustment to these pumps, or do I need to tear it apart and put a new one in it?
I tried doing a search here, but the 360 oil pump issues apparently only happen to me! :'(
On a positive note, the best running of the 3 will handily keep up with my muffler modded MS 310 in timed cuts through 15" Ash chunks. I think in larger diameter pieces it will walk away from it. It seems to have more torque than the Stihl.

Thanks in advance!

I'll take a WAG.  From my reading early oiler adjustment harder to find and later oilers adjuster.  Look on the crankcase in the front right side. Where you would normally see a bar adjuster at.  Should have a metal strip guard in front.

Sorry I dont know these just trying to dig stuff up for you.

Thanks.
I've got Uncle Al working on it too!
I'm heading back outside right now to mess with it some more.

I'll bet I can break it! ::)

This time of year, bar oil is stiff.

You may have to run mostly kerosene with a little bar oil in this cold weather

Winter oil  is 10 wt. Might be something to try too if you dont want to break down the 30 wt.

Bar oil has the okra juice, guar gum, locust bean gum, or some sticky stuff in it where as motor oil does not. This helps the oil cling or stay on the chain and bar.

It might be best to utilize at least some actual bar oil in your mix to have some of the stickiness associated with bar oil in the summer time?

What ever you do, do not use gasoline to thin bar oil in the winter. This makes for a dangerous situation due to the vapor pressure of the gasoline.

Just in case I was misunderstood on my 10wt and 30wt above I was talking about 10wt winter bar oil. I dont know who all makes winter bar oil in 10wt but I do know stihl has it for sure.  http://www.stihlusa.com/products/oils--lubricants-and-fuels/oils-and-lubricants/winteroil/

About a 1/4 mix of Kerosene always works well for me when temps are below freezing.  My Dad taught me how to use a chainsaw & cut me loose with it when I was 8 years old it was a Homelite 360; I think he really just wanted another wood cutter to help put firewood in the barn lol

The early 360's used a small mount bar like the EZ series. If those happen to have the large mount bar for the later models on them, they won't oil because the passage is blocked. One way to see if you may have an early model is to look for an adjusting lever on the end of the oil pump.

The bar on the left fits the early 360's, the bar on the right fits the later 360's. The center is designed to work with both. They are all Homelite-branded bars.

Some of these had an adjustable oiler and some did not.  If it has it will be on the front of the saw near the bar.  I have a SL35 that doesn't have an adjustable oiler.  Good luck with them.  Aside from a tricky boot replacement they are reputed to be very good saws

Thanks in advance!
