Homelite 240

scored a 240 last weekend at a swap for a fiver with no starter cord as I have never dug into a homey (have a few of the smaller ones on a shelf with a 150) do these 240s have the carb boot that I see mentioned so often cheers

Yep.  That model has a block that the carb mounts to.  No boot.  It's sort of an outgrowth of the XL/XL2/Super2 saws.  Same basic design.  Uses some of the same parts.  More displacement.  Carb's in a different location.  Two bar studs/nuts rather than a single.  Other minor differences.
