Thank You Cut4fun and deezlfan for your responses. I failed to mention that when i drained the tank before that a very few pieces of what looked to be of the same black plastic as the pump were floating around in the old bar oil.
I drained and flushed the tank out this morning with mix fuel befour checking my email. After filtering the mix fuel flush i found 3 more pieces. I have no idea how they would get in the tank but there they were.
