homelite super 2
« on: November 12, 2018, 03:24:47 pm »
Afternoon....I have a Homelite super 2 that is hard to start. If I take the muffler off it fires right up a;most first pull every time.

My question...do you clean the muffler , replace it ?  Is this normal for chainsaw not to start if muffler dirty.

Thanks in advance ...Walter

If the muffler is plugged up, the motor cannot move air through itself, and you will not get a charge of gas in the cylinder to burn.  I'm thinking that you might have a spark arrestor screen in the muffler that is plugged with exhaust residue.  If so, you can take it apart and burn it off with a torch until it's clean.  Make sure to do it outside because there will be a lot of smoke!

update on Super 2...cleaned muffler it runs better, starts better but I continue to have trouble with it consistently running

Have rebuilt carb, changed carb but it still seems to flood. Pulling my hair out on this one.

@ FishNuts2 ......thanks for advice on cleaning muffler ...I am ready to set this one aside for awhile.
