If my memory serves the xl12 was out before the 10-10 mac, it was in the mid 60s, we used macs in the woods  and I remember we walked into a shop somewhere and they had the first xl12 anybody had seen and my boss picked up held it up to the ceiling with one hand and said "what kind of toy is this", he was 6"3" and 240 and used a 740mac all day, I think it was close to 100cc and the power head was 27lbs.

I stumbled across some variation of the xl series in my storage trailer yesterday .I have no idea what it is only says 59 cc on the side .I do have a PL4 and PL5 Remington which are  real close in design to the XL series plus a couple of Lombard Al42 series .

The design was used by about everybody but McCulloch .Kevin had a little 2 cuber with a picture and I think Remington had one in the 80 cc range .Poulan had some in between .It's anybodies guess how many where out there .

The XL12 series are my favorites, my first saw was an XL500, they became the most familiar.  Here are pics of some of my collection, I have my original XL500 and I have two others.

These three are all in very nearly original condition with only minor fixes.  It would appear that the marketing strategy of special paint jobs did in fact sell saws to people who actually had limited use for the saws.  My gain.  All my XL500s needs restoration, they were actually used quite a bit but all run fine.
