1984 Husky 44 Ignition

New to the forum, Tx….Can't get a spark. Probably coil. Original owner. Service / parts list 11, SX 84.023
Saw ID: s/n 5122228
Coil p/n 501-5972-01 Black potting, stamped on; Germany…2 204 222 65
Module p/n 505 32 55-39. Printed on; IIDA, EY850, JAPAN
My cheap ohmmeter(only one scale, smallest tick's 100 ohms) Spark plug cap to ground 8.5K. primary shows short. What should I read?
The module resistance is 4.5K
If the coil's bad, are there any replacements available?

No way to remove the laminated poles and use another model coil?

To aclarke, tx …..I think i can get the coil off the core. Next, where will I find a replacement coil. Does anyone rewind these things?
How can I be sure this one's really bad?

Test resistance on primary/secondary coils, don't have specs on hand but I can look it up or some else may know an acceptable value off hand.   If you don't have a multimeter your local saw shop would be familiar with that procedure.  The laminated frame will usually come out easily if you hold the coil portion loosely in a vise.  I'm not familiar with that particular saw but the idea is to use the original coil frame that screws to your case and find a replacement coil portion that fits within the original. Space.  I've done this a few times and it may be a worth a shot if the oem piece is NLA ...

Read on the net that a Mac Titan coil may work too. Be worth a shot.

Post a pic and a part number, should be able to find something from another saw that used that coil

My mouse is broken can't right click for copy/paste.  See earlier post on Husky 44.  Husky 55 coil is supposed to work w/relocted mounting holes.  I have a bunch of 44 coils PM me if interested.

I'm back. Just got res.  from Lee at Bill's saw shop in Salamanca, NY (tx, Lee) . Pri 0.8 ohm, Sec 9Kohm. Just discovered my 8.6K jumps good to open by moving the plug wire around at the coil connection. The diag. shows the plug wire as a separate part #. Does this wire just plug into the coil assembly? I can spin the wire around at the junction. It doesn't pull out. Any help ?
