The plug wire screws into the coil, turn it anti-clockwise and it should disengage. Make a new wire or if yours is long enough you can just clip 1/4-1/2 inch off and screw it back in. Make sure you clip off it square at the end.

I've seen the 5mm plug wire at HLS parts

Thanks to all responders. The latest: My wire's OK, The coil secondary has finally opened up. It's apparently been feigning death for awhile, but has given up the ghost. I seems that I need a coil assembly if I'm to get this old chopper back in service. If Farmboy's on I'd like to hear if He's got this coil.

Can someone tell me what the ignition module does and if mine checks out electrically. Reads 4.5Kohm.
Tx again to all….J Aronson, Litchfield, ME

The ignition module triggers the coil.

I'm back!  Found my SM on 40-44-340-444.  Doesn't give ohms for coil test did say if no spark replace trigger unit first.

Coil/trigger package arrived from Shep Mon, put it together today. Love that sound! Runs great.
