These new chains you get at Tractor Supply for $ 25.00 - $ 27.00 bucks  are throw aways after they wear out although I thought I would start sharpening them to save my pennies. I bought one of those Harbor Freight $ 29.00 on sale inexpensive motorized sharpeners cause there is not a shop like Lenords Farm & Ranch nearby that sharpens chainsaw blades anymore. I guess that is a thing of the past, chainsaw blade sharpeners... There used to be a guy in Reno between Azle & Springtown on south side of highway 199 who sharpened chainsaw blades and there was a guy in Azle on 730 N but he's closed up shop too.. I am located in Fort Worth Texas if that helps....

Anybody tell me what is a medium priced super dooper sh_t fire magic 20 inch 72 tooth chainsaw blade going to cost me ? These throw aways at Tractior Supply and Northern are killing me

I like the Stihl RS chains. They cost what you've been paying and last a good while.

You can do a good job on your chains with a file. I did it for many years.

I prefere LPX, as it feels a little faster and definately smoother in the cut - but I also use LGX and RSC/RS without complaining.  ;D

Those are all very good chisel chain.

RM is fine semi chisel, but I rarely use that - I like to keep a few around though, just in case I come across some dirty wood.

I didn't go out and buy it new. The loops I have came with a used chainsaw. I don't throw chain away if I can use it at all. To my surprise, it is OK, I just use that saw in the dirty wood.

I have an old 40 year old 59DL loop of 3/8" Oregon round corner chain with the straight rakers I have used on different chainsaws and I have no problem with it. I think it was on a Homelite 150XL that someone gave me? I evened up the cutters on the 511A and set the rakers. It does surprisingly well. Cut4fun made a couple cuts with it on a 346. He was surprised too.

Like you I too have all kinds of chains from used saws that I have purchased and I will use them all.   I have some stihl chisel that I square ground that cuts great and some vanguard that I ground the angle off of the rakers.   But if I buy new it is usually is LGX.

Yes, I have a loop of Vangard and don't remember what it came on? It cuts good but don't know about those rakers?
