+1 1990, third week, 181st saw built that week. Very early 262XP, would have the KS top end and HDA-87 carb. Also has the early 4-screw muffler, and the door for the electronics box in the handle. Don't break the little door, they are hen's teeth and NLA!

Repair kit is K22-HDA
Diaphragm kit is D22-HDA

KS top ends are marked with a 'K' over struck with an 'S' on the cylinders external transfer ports. The early KS top ends perform much better than the later Mahle version, and are very hard to find.

Sorry Ron, but I looked for a pristine 'first Model' 262XP for years and accumulated quite a bit of info on them, courtesy of Troll. Besides a saw is just a saw but money is money! ;D

Early, yes - about halv a year after the oldest serial number I have seen a picture of on one (1999 week 26). You are of course right about the dating.

...and you are of course right about the KS top end with no decomp, the HDA-87, and that rear handle thing - unless something has been changed out at some point.... ;)

I just noticed in this pic my best looking 262xp I sold had that little door.  So what was it for?

I prefer the 3750 in pics to cut with then the 262. Just over rated IMO.

Kevin HVA were experimenting with electronically controlled saws way back then. If you remove the door and peer inside you can actually see the wire passage that would lead the wires from the module up to the carb box. The module and I suspect battery were to be housed in the handle. Interior dimensions are way too small to be a tool box as some thought.
