262xp won't stay running
« on: September 15, 2015, 02:05:53 pm »
I have a 262xp that I love. Had problems last year so I took it to a husky technician. It would run for about a minute the die. Acts like it's not getting fuel. The technician put on a new cylinder and said it was fixed. Same problem. I don't think I needed the cylinder but oh well. Back to square one. Can't get it running. Ant thoughts?  Thanks. Tim

Check the fuel tank breather. Long pencil shaped plastic piece pressed into the upper portion of the fuel tank. Probably have to loosen the tank screws from the motor to access.

Or you can crack the fuel cap open alittle to let air into the tank to see if it stays running or dies.   If it stays running then you know the vent is plugged up.

Could be a bad fuel filter.   Checked fuel line and make sure it is not showing any cracking any where.

When it dies pull the plug attach it to the plug wire and hold it against the top of the cylinder and verify you have spark.

There are other possibilities but this is a good place to start.

Took fuel tank off but couldn't find a vent tube. Put back togeather and loosened cap and it seemed to do fine. Only thing coming out of tank was fuel line to carb.

The vent is supposed to be on the right side (highest point) of the tank.

When assembled in the tank - It is just a round place of porous material. About 5/16" in diameter.

Probabaly have to loosen the tank from the motor to access the vent. They can be a little difficult to remove...

I took the tank off. Couldn't find anything but the fuel line coming out of the top and going to the carb. The saw is an early model. The date stamp on the tank is 95.

The vent on the ones I have seen is actually shaped somewhat like a ball point pen. But all of the vent but the very end is inside to fuel tank.

You are looking for the very butt end of the vent on the outside of the tank.
