So if a 272XP and a 288XP have the same carb, does that mean that my 272XP is getting as much gas a the 288XP?
Or am I overthinking this?

There's not as much air traveling through the 272 carb

They're the same basic model (Tillotson HS)..............but definitely not the same carb.

Correct. Throttle linkage is different for one.

Yep! Throttle linkage is totally different on 288.

They are the HS Series.
272 = HS254A and HS254B
HS260A

288= HS228A and HS228B

I'm sure there are others.
