3120 unlimited coil source
« on: March 10, 2016, 09:09:30 pm »
I currently use my 3120 for milling. I am milling softwood only. The saw is constantly bouncing of the limiter, it annoys the hell out of me. Does anyone have a source for an unlimited coil for the 3120.
Also i would like to do some mods but it has the non adjustable carburetor, any ideas on substitute carbs or modifying the existing carb,

The saw would be better off to get the high speed needle put in the carburetor so the saw runs rich enough that it doesn't get up against the limiter.

The saw will last longer and run cooler.

I hated my stock one with the low rev limited coil too.  272 coil and flywheel re-time.  http://chainsawrepair.createaforum.com/husqvarna/husqvarna-3120-coil-swap-272/msg54932/#msg54932

Milling I would think you would want fatter. Open up carb a hair or add a  H side like Jim showed.

I believe that mine is limited at 9500 rpm it really seems like it is just puttering along. I would really like it  to turn faster. It's a  3120xp only about 5 years old not many hours on it. I have done a lot of searching online recently. I saw a post somewhere  about the newer xp possibly not needing a timing adjustment after installing a 272 coil. Not sure if that's the case.

The posts I was reading on A S talked about the coil limiting speed being 12000?

There's a 9600 and 12k coil. The 12k isn't bad at all. The 9600 sucks.

if the coil is green its the low limiter , 9600 to 10000 rpms and sucks to run the saw, black coils also vary in rpms with some in the lower 11,000 to 12000 rpms . Donot put a unlimited coil in it as you will most likely break the rod as that is a weak spot on the 3120 . If you need to put a black coil in it but you will need to change the flywheel to the one that works with the black coil , green coil flywheel timed a lot different.
