346xp won't start
« on: August 25, 2013, 07:25:24 pm »
OK, as the title says, my 346xp won't start.
I am not a mechanic in any since of the word, but not afraid to learn and tinker.
May need some "pre-school" advice.  Chainsaw 101 may be too advanced for me.

I have good compression using a compression tester
I have spark, using an ignition spark tester.
I have changed the spark plug.
I only use AV gas.  40:1 mix
Saw ran great a week ago, when last used.
Tried adjusting "L" setting and now back to original at 1 turn CCW
I have tried, starting it every morning for the last 3 days.
Usually get one pop and then nothing.

When adjusting "L", should the choke be on or off?

I removed the air filter to blow it out.  Could some dust have fallen into the carb intake and cause problem?

Can I use "starter fluid" to see if it will kick start it?
Do I spray in the carb or remove plug and spray and replace plug?
Any other suggestions welcome.

when was the last time it ran?

if has not ran for abit then most likely your needle is stuck in the needle and seat , to prove this that your air filter off and  just dump a very small amount of your mixed gas down the throat of the carb, make sure saw is turned on and see if if it fires .

Now you could be the other way and be flooded real bad , if so take sparkplug out , make sure you turn the saw off so not to blow the coil , flip saw up side down so sparkplug hole is on the bottom and turns saw over easy , if flooded you should see gas coming out the sparkplug hole

Don't be using any ether type spray starter fluid in a chainsaw
We should share what we know... someone may learn...

Use mix in squirt bottle. Not ether starter fluid.

Fuel line is always the first thing I check.

I got a very nice 350 the other day for free, because it didn't run. All it needed was a fuel line.

Agree, check fuel line better yet replace it and filter if it's over 3 yrs. old.

Just caught something not mentioned by OP. Was your plug even wet after trying to start?
