Got this 350 that was run with straight gas, 40 psi compression, so,,
I had another good 350 jug and I opened up the exhaust port, left the height the same, also opened up the intake ports down by the crank.
The stock 350 piston is dished out in the middle, stock from the factory like this, i don't know the reason why???  I used a 45 mm piston out of a 55, flat top, with a caber ring.
No base gasket just gasket in a tube, 180 psi comp.  Its out side idling now.  Will report back when it gets into some wood.

The cratered piston was from the E.P.A. models of 350. Not sure what difference the dish makes but that is the reason. I put the piston out of a 353 in mine and it just ran fantastic. It would still have a home here if it weren't for the screw down top cover. I sold the 350 and bought a 351, put an oe 346 top end on it and that saw is a little jewel. Like the clip on top much better.

The EPA 350's were 45mm (with "45" stamped on top of the cylinder, and removable transfer covers) and can take a flat top 353 piston like you stated.  The EPA 350 cylinders are almost identical to a 353 cylinder, although the part #'s for the two are slightly different.  The older 350's have a 44mm cylinder and a flat top piston (and don't have removable transfer covers).
