359
« on: January 05, 2013, 11:56:12 am »
Hi im new here. From NE Pa. Im into forestry, mainly wildlife management, and promote healthy forest conservation. I would like stress that im not a tree hugger, but I use a scientific and common sense approach of helping forests thrive naturally so its a abundent  food  source for native wild animals and future groth.
Ok thats my introduction now for my first question. I have a husky 359. I do believe I purchaced it in 08. Ran great up intil a month ago. Started doing some research on the saw and found that there were problems  with the 199 Carb. And also the clamp. My clamp is metal so I recieved a saw after that problem was resolved. My problem is the carb. I heard many fixes, and the symtoms all point to the carb. I want to replace it. What is the bottom line best carb and what else ids  needed to complete the job? Also I always had good luck with the wt series. Is there a way I can use a wt 813 on this saw? Or any other wt series carb?  Thanks

I don't think the WT-813 is as big as the carb on the 359?

Anyway, the problem with chainsaws and different carbs is that the choke and throttle connections are different and it is difficult to get one to work.

Tell us about your 199. Maybe we can help you get it going?

Husqvarna sells a replacement Zama carb for these but it cost $$$

Very embarrassed. I was adjusting the low jet the it was the initial adjustment so it wasnt started. Somehow the saw shifted on my bench and the low jet bent. I took it out and I not only bent it I also broke off the needl. I don't know if the peice is stuck inside or what. It always started hard which I was use to. So since I wasnt sure about the needle peice causing problems, I thought I just update the whole carb. What do you think of the carb husky used to replace the worbro?  The carb is about 45 to 55 bucks. Plus I heard there is a part that is needed to make it fit. Other then that I heard it bolts right up. No linkage adjustment or fuss. I figured its the price I have to pay for messing up. The new carb price that is. I thought a wt would be good because it is a higher proformance carb.

The new Zama carb is not higher performance than the original carb. It is just a different carb that the choke and throttle arms all connect right up.

You are going to need a different carb. That would be your best route.

I prefer the 199 if you could get them. The next best thing is the Zama that Husqvarna sells.

Do not use the Walbro back on this saw.

You need to go with the ZAMA the part number is 505 20 30-02 and you will need to change the carb adapter 503 92 85-02 most likely, not sure of serial break but it is not expensive. The original type of carb adapter 503 92 85-01 will interfere with the fit of the ZAMA, the 02 fits either the Walbro or the ZAMA.

The carb and adapter can be replaced by a dealer in under 10 minutes if they are good, takes me about 4 minutes if all tools and parts are laying on bench.

While the ZAMA is not necessarily a high performance carburetor, it brings this saw to life. Make sure the dealer gets it adjusted it correctly though.
