359/357xp

I'm building a couple of 359s right now. Deep into the first and it needs a crank (have a good used 359 crank). This one will get a new oem 357 top-end that I will port. My question; Is it worth putting the crank stuffer on the 359 crank? I don't have a set, so was wondering if it'd be worth ordering a set. I also see a used 357xp crank on ebay for $30, but already have too much $$ in this thing? Thanks for any help...

It really matters which top end you are using and if you plan on porting the cylinders at all.  I've found on stock 357 cylinders the stuffers help but make the saw too peaky once ported to be a work saw.  I wouldn't use them with the 359 cylinders that use transfer caps.

Would you use the crank stuffers with the AM 47mm jug that has transfers like a 357XP (no 353/359 type port covers).....or would the non-stuffed crank be better with those? IIRC it's a Hyway 'big bore 357XP' cylinder that WEM sells...

My Big Dave Neiger ported 357 wasnt peaky at all IMO.  For 56.5cc saw I was impressed with it.  Had pop up and around 180psi if I remember right.  Also used oem intake gasket like I like to do.

DN357xp  cutting year old dry sycamore cant about 4:10 in then 4:21 I let another guy run the 357.  Took 1st again in gtg racing and sold right after to friend that was there.

Is the 359 top end a direct bolt on to a 357? I think i was reading one time the small end of the rod on a 359 was different than the 357??? I'm thinking about taking the ported cylinder off my 357,find a stock OEM 357 or 359 top end for it and sell it. I don't race it anymore due to my Danny Henry 365 being faster.

I'm Very Happy with my ported 357xp, not pecky at all... That's why I'm building another ported (359 w/357 P&C). Just don't know if I want to put stuffer in this one of not. Don't really want to order the stuffers or another crank, but will if it's worth it.

If I remember right the early 357s' had a smaller 'small rod end'. Later ones, both models are the same. Not sure though... The 2 359s' I have both interchange with the 357xp.

The very first ones had a weaker and lighter case as well - that's likely where the too low weigh specs came from, they "forgot" to update them...
