365/372
« on: October 15, 2014, 08:41:12 pm »
I hope this is not a repeat from another thread.(sorry if it is)What are the main differences between the 2 saws. I know the 365 has the low profile filter and housing. Looks like the cylinder is different from the parts look up. I have a 371 p and c thought it my be a cheaper route to find a 365 to work with than a 372. There is all most a 200 dollar difference in price new from my local dealer.

365 came in open and closed port.  48mm   some 365 zama carbs

371 single ring  372 double  might have been a crossover there with 372 single too.  50mm and 51.44mm on 372 walbro carbs

Not sure correct me if wrong.

Thanks cut. Think I will start looking for a 365 to build and play with. Sold my 371 to a friend of mine. He has wanted it for about 2 years. So now I am looking to replace.

The 365's that say "365 Special" on the starter cover are supposed to be the closed port ones.

But there again, with a old saw, who knows . . . The chainsaw could have been changed over time?

The really old ones had bolt on carb boots.

Everything above is correct. The 365SP 371/372 are all essentially the same saw, with different P/C and carbs. HD air filter is/was an option but most dealers ordered the saws with the HD setup. Keep in mind that the new saws you see are most likely XT versions, no big deal the case is the same. In fact if you order a new case for a 372XP as a spare part you will get the XT case. The 371 P/C you have will work on any of the cases. One additional note, the XT saws make a little more torque than the XP versions, and a 365XT can be converted to a 372XT in less than an hour, you grind the vane out of the transfer port covers and viola, you have a 372XT!
