Those Chinese rings might take a year to get seated depending on how you use it.

Whereas Caber Italian rings will pretty much be seated after 3 or 4 tanks gas.
I'm going to send it back. He should have disclosed that it was an AM rebuild.

I would send it back.   If it had aftermarket items as important as the cylinder and piston it should have been disclosed.   Plus
it sounds to me like he just flat out lied about it.   Freeze his pay pal account while you still can, believe me that will get his attention.

Cameron, here is a decent 372 bottom end that could be the basis for a good saw. Add a Hyway 52mm big bore kit, a Stihl 064 piston, and the intake and carb off a 372XT or 385XP and you will have a fine running saw.

Closes today in 5+ hours and is at $112 right now!

Not yet, I had been watching the auction that I just sent to Cameron. I am waiting for Saw Again to message me about if there are any stripped or broken out screw holes on the $75 case. That would have made a good base for a saw for Cameron but he had already bought the saw from Saw-Sting.

Thanks TJ, Kevin, Parris and everyone

TJ, yea I was surprised at how dirty the saw was.  I know zero about how a 372 *should* look up close, but that travel limiter seemed way too loose, which is why I thought it should have a rubber mount or something in there.

I forgot to mention that pitted muffler with the coat of paint last night.  I was already pretty pissed about the cylinder.  It would have been ok IF he had told me about it and if I had paid about $125 less.  I paid for OEM and got Chinese AM.

I searched this board and AS for his name and all I found were positive reports.  Maybe there are some threads like this out there on him, but I didn't find them.  That's one reason I put all his names / handles in the original post.

Fortunately, he is being cool about a refund.  Here is his reply:

The cylinder and piston are from RJW Cylinder works back east,
I have had good results with them. The rings will need to seat in.
If you would like to return unit, just drain gas/oil and return.
Just let me know at sawking@hotmail.com
Take care
RD

Which I will be doing ASAP.

This is a good lesson for me.  I should have known better.  I DO know better.  But I heard XPW and got excited.

The only 372XPW that were 375's (51.4mm bore) were from January 2007 through March 2010

The rest were all 50 mm bore

Yea, more like Red Chinese Army cylinder works.

It wasn't the XPW in that link you posted above -- that one looks MUCH nicer than what I got.  He hadn't listed it on the bay, and I thought I was snagging a really nice unit.  WRONG.  I need to get in gear so I can take it to the post office today.

If he gives me a full refund, including original shipping, I won't try to torpedo him on PayPal.  That's a level of escalation beyond what this situation deserves, IMO.  If he was resisting the refund, then I would, but he's not.  With a full refund, each of us will only be out the cost of shipping 1 way and our time.

Lesson learned for me, and hopefully for him to DESCRIBE HIS GOODS BETTER when some noob like me calls him on the phone looking for an XPW.
