« on: February 22, 2014, 06:16:17 pm »
i have a parts saw with no serial # tag and no covers on it. most of the part #'s start with 501. Could it be a 385, 390 or 394 possibly ?

Post a couple of pictures one of the members will be able to identify it. Visual differences between the 394 and 395 without covers are subtle IMHO the 385 is pretty easy to spot. Does it have a muffler like a 372, if so might be a 385.

I already have it taken apart but the piston is slightly smaller than a 394.

Nice FORD truck! Ford makes TRUCKS everybody else makes cars that think they are trucks!

Do you know what carb model is on it? Does it have a bridge across the top of the flywheel side of the case like a 372? 385 has 54mm piston and the 394 a 56mm.

Good thought a 288 also has a 54mm bore!

Thanks, that Ford has been my hobby for 8 years!
As for the saw it has a tillotson carb, no bridge above the flywheel and  i found the part # 501 8004 inside the case half.

Well it is hard to judge by casting PNs but the 288 case has a part number of 501 80 03-06, so we are real close to it being a 288! IMHO 288s are killer saws, non epa and no goofey crap on them (sort of like a Ford 427 side oiler)! ::) I have one and it scares me every time I run it!
