435 Compression
« on: February 10, 2016, 09:51:20 am »
Just tore down my first 435.  Saw wouldn't run. Pulled muffler piston looks good thru ex. port.  Looked thru spark plug hole thought I could see scoring between transfers and ex. port.  Did compression check 93 psi.  I had a new PC so I thought I would install it.  Carb removal was interesting to say the least with all the locating tabs on intake boot.  Found the case to cyl base screws 1 missing, 2 loose, 1 tight.  Piston is not scored machine marks still present.  Ring is free and looks good.  Don't have an explanation of low comp.  No decomp valve on this motor.  Question is is it possible on these Xtork motors to loose comp due to vac leak between the base and cyl.?

Placing a Jacks order so will put a new ring ($6.18 @ Jacks).

Do you still have it opened up. Are able to remove the base on this model?

Yes it's still open.  Going to do new ring and have to order one.  Can't remove base it's part of plastic crankcase like old Husky WE (like 235R IIRC).

Never had to open one of these yet. Only tune ups etc.  Any pics?

Great little chainsaws ( the Model 435). I repaired three of them over the last 6 months, I can't remember what was wrong with the first one I think maybe it was a carburetor problem. The second one was a friends who asked,  If I could due a tune-up for it, which I did but the real problem was operator error on his part on how to start it. The third one I repaired recently just had a bad ignition module, and its running again.

Good luck on your re-build  :-*
