543 or 550?
« Reply #10 on: July 18, 2015, 05:05:05 pm »
I picked up a 543 at the local dealership the other day and my first thought was it looked and felt very consumer grade.
The MS241 with the 63PS  b/c is alot more impressive.
What if putting a 63PS chain on the 543XP? In what level, would that neutralize the preference for the MS241C-M? Or for the 550XP(G).
What else are the major missing features of the 543XP, if any?
Consumer grade feeling?
AutoTune?
Anti Vibration implementation?

Are the new Husky fuel caps interchangeable to older models since they still screw in like normal?
Yes!

The 543xp is a Zenoah design, not a true Swedish Husky. Major mistake imo, as it is lacking in several areas, compared to the 550xp design.

SawTroll nailed it on the head there......Zenoah design.
Also the 543 has a small 7 spline rim sprocket.
It won't take a 63PS Picco chisel chain as the only Picco rim sprocket  available   is a mini 7 spline what the 241CM and 261 takes.

Since Oregon sells the 91VXL chain, I would expect they also has a suitable rim sprocket fitting Husqvarna and others.

91VXL and 63PM and 63PS are thereafter interchangeable, given a suitable 0.050" bar also is available.

That would seem logical......but Oregon does not sell a 3/8-LP rim.  They sold a nine spline 3/8-LP six pin rim at one time.  These (and the .325-7 and 1/4-9 nine spline rims) were for the proprietary nine spline drums sold for the Poulan XXV series and a few other saws.

The only other floating 3/8-LP rims that I know of are those sold by Stihl for their proprietary 'mini' seven spline drums...

for the price and weight in hands.  I don't think the 543 makes sense its not enough lighter to justify the loss of power.

Art , if you can find a new 346 I would  go that way before buying a 550 in your air , at least you can adjust the carb on the 346 when the air pressure raises or drops like it does at your place about 5 times an hour , the autotune willnot keep up when that big of a air pressure swing and you will end up running to rich
