545/550/555/562 Oil Pumps

The above saws all have a rather exposed oil pump, which appears very vulnerable in a thrown chain situation. Any thoughts on this?

You mean 545?

I noticed that and brought it up during testing of the 545 and 550 compared to the 346.

Is what it is. Nothing I could see to change it.

I've thrown a chain only a couple times in 30 years of cutting. One of those times was on my 562xp and there was no damage to the oil pump.

We see quite a few thrown chains doing tree removals also on pruning or brush/chaparral clearing.  An exposed oil pump would likely be destroyed if exposed

You would think. But I spend too much time on several chainsaw forums and have yet to hear of a thrown chain taking out an oil pump.

346 550 oilers.  Stock for stock give me the 545 550 over a 346 for  all work. Now if porting and cookie cutting for times 346.
