I think I will do that, just buy a ring. To busy now to fool with it for a while.

I take a fine journal polishing  type sand paper and go across cleaning the scuff some. NOT up down. Do it by going across easily.

That should be a 55 Rancher made 1999 week 13, meaning it likely is a bit too early to have come with the closed port 45 mm top end.

According to the IPL, they came with the 46 mm open port at that point.

Is there a number in blue ink on top of the cylinder?

967 05 27 00 is the "part number" for the complete powerhead.

I have seen 55 ranchers and the decals on the recoil say they are ranchers, this one doesn't.

I'll look for that blue ink number.

The use of the "Rancher" designation may have been a bit "spotty", meaning it may have varied with time and market, but according to the IPLs the regular 55 came with a decomp valve in the cylinder and the Rancher not at that time.

Also, the source that told me that 967 05 27 00 meant Rancher may have been off

Pictures of the cylinder, including numbers and letters on it would be helpful.

Lots of snow here as well, and not the light variety.

A couple of cylinder pictures.

I can see I need to clean up the numbers and take a close up.

Theres no question that being a closed port.  But what puzzles me is you said it measured 44mm!  I would think it ought to be 45mm.  I don't think the 44mm 51's were closed port.  Sawtroll would know.

I measured the cylinder with my inside calipers and I got 4.5.075 inch

Measured the piston and got 4.5.070

Cleaned up the lettering and numbers too.
