One of my carb bolts will not tighten up will I be able to repair treads in the intake houseing or should I find another part? While I posting I have rebuilt Zama carb had it pressure tested it does not seem to want to adjust seems to be flooding while it's idleing any thoughts or is it sucking air at carb mount hope you guys don't think these are really dumb question I in the learning process on a saw rebuild Thanks .

Sucking air where the carb fastens to the engine and the carb flooding are two different, not related, things.

On the regulator side of the carb, the gasket goes on first and then the diaphragm

On the pump side of the carb, the diaphragm goes on first and then the gasket.

I havent ever stripped one yet or had to deal with it on my plastic intake blocks.

If you have it down, also check  impulse  seal o-ring and the intake sleeve.

You could get another intake block or (info I have only read) get 10-24 bolt use it as over size.

Also read where you could get a long bolt put it in from the back with nuts on front on carb. Never seen this but is out there as a fix.

There is no such thing as a dumb question.  Means you're uneducated in that area.  We're here to help.  I haven't tried repairing the partition I usually replace em with a good used one from my parts pile.  I'm gonna have to try fixing one one day.  I still have em in the pile.

Hi all.  I have a 55 (not a Rancher) that I bought new in 1998.  Its been a great saw.  Recently I notice that after about 30-45 minutes it gets hot and smoke starts to come from inside all the plastic cowling around the engine.  It's not out of bar oil as I check after every tank of gas.  Shortly after it starts smoking it quits and won't start.  I'm afraid that it might need an engine overhaul?  Any ideas?

Maybe you have saw dust and oil caked up on the cylinder or flywheel causing it to over heat. Maybe you need to tear the saw down and give it a good clean.

Tried that.  Besides, the smoke doesn't smell like wood burning.  It smells like oil and gaskets/rubber burning.  I'll try it again, just to rule it out.

Well, now I've really got myself in a pickle!  Tore it all down and cleaned all the gunk from the fins on the cylinder head and everywhere else I could find it.  Put it all back together and voila!  The dang thing won't start!  New spark plug making spark, plenty of gas to the carb, nothing else obviously wrong.  I didn't really want to cut wood today anyway! ::)
