55 husqvarna not starting when hot
« on: June 24, 2020, 08:26:27 pm »
I have owned Husqvarna for many years. I have a 55 chainsaw that I cut wood with and a 55 rancher my son uses. I also have a straight shaft Husqvarna weed eater. I am having trouble with all three of these starting when they are hot. I have never had this trouble. The funny thing is all three just started this at the same time. So today I bought 93 octane with synthetic husqvarna oil mix.  They are doing the same thing with the new gas. Could it be the synthetic oil causing the problem??

IMO no.

Do you guys have winter blend gas in pumps still?   With the weird year I wonder on this at places.

Have you tried open the L side up a 1/4 turn?

Not sure but something is up for sure. All three doing the same thing rules out the saws or weedeater. Do you know where I can buy non synthetic oil mix

Husky oil is semi synthetic

I run 100% synthetic oils.

Poulan oil in black bottle was husky dino oil.  If you can find it.  I used it till 2004 or so till I went 100% synthetic

So maybe it is the gas and not the oil causing my problems

I doubt that it is the oil or the gas causing your problems.
It could be that your equipment is getting older and could use a retuning of the carburetor.   That is why Cut4fun suggested that you turn the L screw on the carb 1/4 turn ccw.    That will richen up the mixture a little at the low rpm range.   When 2 stroke engines run on the lean side they get hot and if too hot it will cause problems.    So try and adjust the carb and see if that helps.

Could just be the hot weather. Not sure where you are located, but from the date of your first post, that was when we in the Northeast got our first dose of 90 degree temps for the summer. The fact that it happened "all of a sudden" to 3 units kind of eliminates the machines themselves. Every time the temps jump up to 90 like that we get a whole bunch of hot start complaints of all kinds of stuff. There really isn't much we can do. Had the same problem myself last week on one of my own saws. In fact it was also a 55. Took several pulls to get it going. Setting the high idle helps. Big difference with these little air cooled engines when the cooling air is 90 vs say 50 degrees.

I have seen some vapor locking of the fuel in very hot weather on some of my saws.    Never thought to consider that hot weather could be the issue here.
+1 Spike.
