Assembling a 576xp?
« on: January 22, 2014, 10:49:28 am »
Just got a new 576xp but can't find any instructions on how to attach the equipment that came with it. Like the bumper spike?

Any help appreciated!

Chuck

Which spike are you talking about? Inner or outer spike. Did your dealer not put the saw together for you? What else do you have to put together? Try posting a picture, makes it easier to help you. Also check your Owners Manual, if you did not get one with the saw something is very fishy. Go here to get the OM and IPL Illustrated Parts List:

Thanks for the quick reply.

I got it on eBay so it was shipped unassembled...

I did get the manual but for putting it all together there wasn't any info.

Looks like a great chainsaw however!

I looked all through the illustrated parts list but is there a simpler guide to assembling these 576xp's out of the box?

What do the dealers use to assemble them? Thanks!

The dealers know how to assamble them - and they shouldn't really be sold unassambled.

I have a hard time imagining it can be an issue though..... ???

Btw, have you looked in the user manual that came with the saw?

The manual only shows how to put on the chain bar. Nothing about the bumpers or the handle... like what is the purpose of the third screw up on the right part of the handle? I can see where a screw goes into the anti-vibration part but I don't see what that long black screw does?

There is also a white round plastic gasket under the clutch cover... I assume that gets tossed?

Any help appreciated. Maybe these are rookie questions but this is my first "big" saw... if you guys can answer some of my questions it'd be appreciated.

OK, there are two different sizes of screws that hold the top handle to the saw. The long one goes through the handle to the AV mount on the cylinder, the other four go in the bottom two mounting positions on the clutch side of the saw, the other two go through he handle into the bottom of the tank/handle unit. Save the white shipping spacer as it will come in handy if you want to ship the saw without the bar. Just start all the screws without tightening until they are all where they belong then tighten them up. A 4mm Allen 'T' handle is the tool of choice; available at Harbor Freight!

Look for the 'T' handle here:

Too many beers to tell you about the felling dogs tonight, I'll post again in the AM!

You are right that the round white plastic under the clutch cover should be tossed - but I am rather appalled that anyone would sell the saw to you in that condition, without making sure you could assamble it properly yourself first.

If the saw isn't an AutoTune it is worse, as the dealer should have made sure the carb was set properly as well.

Anyway, make sure that you leave negative feedback, if you bought it on Ebay.

I agree with you guys. Listen I've been around the block like you all have but when you're handed a new chainsaw with a bag of parts it would be nice to have at least some instructions on how to put it all together and what to throw away.

Anyways you've all been a big help. It's put together and it's a great-looking machine. Definitely a machine for the Big Dawgs.

Take care.

Chuck
