Just a test chain I made for build offs.  Decent GTG chain in 20" 72dl.

If you are careful with that 7/32" round file and a raker file, you can make some good chains

That chain would probably cut good. Now if you could square file it from where it is you would probably pick up a little bit in the cut. If you want to run a 60 dl 3/8".050" I have one chain left that could be turned into a decent play chain. If you use a 20" bar I have a couple loops laying around also. Just let me know if you want one or take Kevin up on his offer of his 60 dl loop.

Is there any threads about square filing or some links to youtube I cant seem to find anything, i'm very interested in this square filing. What type of file do you use? I have a triangular file will that work?

Am I on the right path or is this a throw away chain?

You can do a lot of mods with that chain and still can make it very fast with the round file.
But from your pic your biggest problem is you didn't round off the leading edge of the depth gauge after you lowered it. A lot of friction and lost power is used with that square edge, looks too low also.
