Bar and Chain Question
« on: January 25, 2013, 09:37:29 pm »
Im trying to decide what kind of bar to put on my 2100 and chain type...I was thinking about a 28" oregon power match with a full skip chiesl bit. Is there a better option??

Why full skip? That 2100 will pull full comp with no problem.

Don't know where you're at and local customs but that saw will pull a full comp chain at 28"

I was just wondering...I ran both full comp and full skip chains. Full comp chainsaw cut smooth but lots of teeth to worry about. The full skip has less teeth and cuts fast but not as smooth and has a greater chance of kickback. Which would be better for felling/bucking firewood then??

This is more of a regional preference.

West coast likes the skip.

East coast likes full comp

Im west coast...I feel like the full skip clears wood chips better and therefore cut faster especially with big wood and longer bars. What band of chain would you suggest or is there that great of a different?

I like Stihl RSC but I've bought all the guy had where I was buying it. I shop around and see what the prices are with local people. I generally also like the Oregon 3/8" chain but might buy Carlton or even McCulloch if it looks good and has a good price. In .325, I don't like Oregon.

Blunt has bought Oregon, Carlton, and Windsor so there is sometimes commonality in those brands depending on year. In the USA Husqvarna and Dolmar will usually have a chain and bar made by Blunt. The last dozen chains I have bought have been 72LGX and 72CL Oregons.

You being a West Coast guy, your friends will laugh at you if you do not put skip chain on that 2100 even though it will work fine with full comp chain.

Exactly...full skip square ground is what my dad used logging years ago...I'll try the full skip out. Thanks for the advice!

My 2100 came with a 32"and skip with an 8 tooth .I've never changed it from that but it's got enough grunt to pull full comp no doubt .Tough old coot to get started which is why it spends more time on the shelf than others . I have used some choice words on that old Viking a time or two .
