Brake handle on a 55 rancher
« on: July 09, 2014, 11:10:05 pm »
I was at work today and a 55 rancher came in with the brake in pieces.   I am having trouble figuring out where one of the springs fits.   I got the coil spring that goes in the clutch cover in ok but the one that goes in the handle I have not figured out yet.   I looked at the service manual and they do not discuss that spring.

If some one has a picture with the handle off and the spring in place that would sure be helpful when I go back in on Friday to look at it again.

Thanks Jim it is item number 3 that I am having trouble with how it is oriented in the handle.   Unfortunately the IPL does not show that.   I will keep trying and it will eventually make sense.

Roger, I think I have a cover with handle around here. I'll look for it and send a picture. IIRC it looks to be complex but it is not.

Roger this shows how it goes. The pin and circlip in the handle do not go through the ring it just rests gainst the spring. Different spring p# for your 272 but works the same way.

I believe that picture is misleading.  It indicates that the coil of the spring is attached at the pivot point of the handle, when in reality it cannot.

Here you go Roger. This is a 272 cover but they are all the same.

Roger, after you do a bunch of HVA saws you'll find that most things on them are of such simple design that they mess with your head! You know like you say to yourself 'it can't be that simple can it or am I doing something wrong?' Most times it is that simple. Except for the left front carb box screw on a k750 cut-off saw!
