The jungle muffler is the one with the pipe. It can be louder than some of the other ones depending on where the outlet is and how big it is.

The pipe version muffler has baffling inside, the top-exit one is completely empty, only a hole on the top.

I always thought the jungle one was the pipe one since it didn't have a spark arrestor screen. Learn something every day.

It has to do with EPA, "jungle" refers to areas/countries where EPA sound regulations don't apply. ;)

That's what comes on the 372 new to meet the forest standard for sparks. The tube isn't legal for cutting on federal land.

Ok, I thought sound pressure levels were also a part of EPA regulations, maybe I'm wrong..

I think it is but the saws have screens in the US for the forest service rules.
