Coil to flywheel air gap tool?
« on: February 08, 2014, 03:36:33 pm »
I was looking for a .3mm air gap tool, and found a nice Stihl tool but it is .2mm, in inches is about .008",
And Husky calls for .3mm which in inches is about .012"
I also see B&S makes one that is .0125"
Does it make much of a difference? I kind of like the one by Stihl.

Use a business card or a piece of clear plastic from the cover of a pie or cake your wife gets from the store. The advantage of the clear plastic is that you can see through it to make sure the 372 flywheel is lined up with the poles of the coil.

I have one of those plastic pie covers, I will mic it and see how thick it is. Good idea. If I can find a business card I will mic one of those also. Seems like a business card is thicker. It is probably a waste to buy a tool, I will use it once than 10 years from now when I need it again I won't be able to find it.

The book for Husqvarna 372xp says gap should be .3mm which comes out to .0118" inch. I suppose give or take a thousandth of an inch won't matter.
