Chainsaw Repair

I remember Baileys selling these and I had wanted one. They were only like $500-$575 new on closeout and 74.66cc?

It will get its butt kicked into the next county by the AK77 372.
It has some scoring on the piston.  I've been working so much recently that I haven't delved into it too deeply but sure am anxious to.

I'm really curious about this saw. It is the 372XP version and it looks GREAT.
Wondering how it got scored and still look as good as it does.

Well, I thought I'd update this thread.

Andyshine77 and I removed the original cylinder and piston which was scored badly.
We installed a stock 372 cylinder and a new piston and the saw runs out very nicely.

I had hoped to be able to salvage the original cylinder to see what they really did run like but alas, I think it is too far gone.
There are some pretty serious scores through the nikasil and while that in itself wouldn't really bother me too terribly (to see how it would run) they are up into the combustion/compression area and I don't think it would ever produce enough compression to give a realistic assessment of how this saw would run from the factory.
this saw was very definitely run on either straight gas or terribly contaminated fuel.
The scores are all the way around the cylinder in various locations.

I did pick up a NOS piston and cylinder and I may try to find some porter that would like to duplicate the factory Univent specs into the NOS cylinder.

The original Univent cylinder was very definitely ported!
The ports are considerably bigger and the timing seems to be somewhat different.
I would like to get a good degree wheel on this thing and see just what the numbers are.
