365 connecting rod bearing
« on: September 25, 2016, 12:13:20 am »
I've got a 16 year old Husqvarna 365 Special and it lost compression due to a scored piston with a stuck ring. Anyway I noticed there's some play in the connecting rod bearing at the crankshaft. How much if any play is normal? This is the first chainsaw I've ever taken this far apart. Thanks.

Normal. If that bearing cage was scuffed or discolored then I'd think about replacing.

That looks normal. Try to pull UP and back Down straight UP and down you dont want play.  I have a few bad ones that do that.

Push the rod forcefully up and down,if you can detect any play it is very worn. The standard factory test on most 2-strokes is to rock the rod from side to side and measure how far this play is.However I've never seen any factory saw specs on how far that play should measure. I'm thing if it's much over 3mm the bearing is suspect. Make a point of checking this on any saws you have apart and you will soon get to know how much play they should have. I can easily tell when one is too sloppy from doing it a long time. Check and measure a new one for a starting point.
