Husqvarna 235E brake clutch cover bending/warping?
« on: November 07, 2017, 12:00:29 pm »
I have a husqvarna 235e and did a complete disassemble to clean the unit including the clutch brake spring cover. I reinstalled the spring with a flat head screw driver and reinstalled the cover that covers the spring and arm. I noticed that when the clutch cover housing is on the saw and the brake handle is engaged/disengaged that the gray spring cover starts to warp and separate from the clutch cover it is screwed into.

Any idea what I did wrong to cause this? I took some pics and hosted them in hopes it will better explain my issue:

Good pics and hosting.

Maybe show you if something was wrong when putting together.

Thanks, I actually added a new photo angle and excerpt from the ipl you provided as I ask around, updated link

I did the following twice: removed brake band, assembly link, spring and gray brake band cover held by 3 screws

I cant find a workshop manual for the 235 so I used a similar one for the 340 I think.

Once disassembled I greased the slot spring goes into, put the link assembly into the housing and moved link so that brake band was engaged. I slipped spring over the white plastic pin and compressed spring with flat screwdriver and popped it down into its slot. While holding spring I installed brake band cover without fully tightening the 3 screws and then used brake handle as a wrench to turn the 3 prong cog and disengage the brake band, fully tightening the 3 screws, installed clutch cover.

Once installed the gap isnt too bad, but after I engage/disengage brake first time then the gap is more noticeable.

Not sure what it is that is causing this, followed the shop manual & ipl. Not sure if its normal or safe to use so trying to figure it out. If I find out I will update.

Just wanted to update that I assume the saw is safe to use for now as someone informed me that their business has three of the 235 and all 3 have this gap though they also said they werent sure if this was normal or caused by something.

If I find out anything else ill sound off here to help anyone who finds this via search.

Couldnt edit my last lost and had to make this a reply.
