Help with old Husqvarna 266SE
« on: October 13, 2013, 07:07:48 pm »
My father-in-law passed away 20 years ago and left me a Husqvarna 266SE chainsaw. The fuel had been removed prior to it being stored. I have not used it in those 20 years as I was living in the city and had no need for it. I now have moved to the country and am wondering what you suggest to get it back running. I thought I would take a shot at putting some mixed gas in it and replacing the spark plug and giving it a few tugs --- will not start. Any suggestions as to how to get this baby back running short of taking it into a professional. Thanks.

I would check the fuel lines and possibly need a kit in the carb. also make sure it is getting fire.

+1 on what tlandrum said. In fact you should not only check the lines but replace them, not much money and a good thing to do with any saw that has been sitting for 20 years. Use the OEM lines not the junk you can buy at auto parts and big box stores. Carb kits can be had from www.mowers4u.com. You will need to post a picture of the black serial number tag so that we can figure out which carb is on the saw and which hit you need.

IIRC the 266SE used a Tillotson 163a carb.

Thanks for the responses Gents. I pulled the carb out of the saw today and it is indeed an S163A model. As you know this model does not have a primer bulb but gas was indeed flowing once I loosed the gas cap and let some air in. I will see if I can grab the kit locally here, if not will order it. I haven't done one of these particular rebuilds before ---- is there a tutorial on this site or elsewhere (photos would be great) by chance?

Thanks so much for all your help --- the instructions are very good and should not be a problem tackling this project.

If no fuel was flowing until you **** the tank cap, you might want to check the fuel vent. If the vent it blocked no fuel will get to the carb and the saw will not run.
