Husky 266SE repair
« on: November 08, 2012, 04:50:57 am »
Hi. I have to repair a Husky 266SE. The cylinder has over heated etc.
I know I can purchase a new cylider and barrel kit, but I'd like to try and salvage the barrel.
Does anyone know what grit sandpaper I ought to be using? or have useful hints?

Thanks.
Ben H

I just use sanding method to remove the aluminum transfer and scoring from cylinder myself. I never paid attention to the grit I was using, but I have 3-4 different ones to choose from and with clothe type backing.

Some people use oven cleaner to remove aluminum transfer, bathroom toilet cleaner with acid or muriatic acid  itself.

320-400 wet or dry is what I've used but you can use crocus cloth too.

Don't go through the hard coating or you will have to throw it away.

Never had to try this yet, but here where I work ....the guys in the chem lab were saying that muratic acid(hydrochloric) eats both aluminum and chrome, while caustic...NaOH...sodium hydroxide should not eat chrome but should clean off the aluminum from the chrome plating.

At one time I worked in a hard chroming shop. When we had a foul up or rework and needed to redo a chromed part, we would soak the steel part in some Muriatic acid to strip the chrome, re-machine, and return to the chrome tank.
