I just use sanding method to remove the aluminum transfer and scoring from cylinder myself. I never paid attention to the grit I was using, but I have 3-4 different ones to choose from and with clothe type backing.

Some people use oven cleaner to remove aluminum transfer, bathroom toilet cleaner with acid or muriatic acid  itself.
