Husky 385xp crankshaft lateral movement
« on: February 20, 2020, 11:13:03 pm »
Hello All, Bought a basket case husky 385xp, bad piston. Took off cylinder and piston, crank seem ok. Took off the clutch and was going to take
off a leaky oil pump , but noticed a little lateral movement in the crankshaft. Tight up and down , but a little play, side to side.
Is this normal ? If not then, the crankcase replaced or both the crank and case ?
Thanks for the help

You talking on the big end rod end of crank? If so yes.

If talking crank bearings and crank moving through them side to side. I never seen this on husky.

MORE added: Guess I should clarify, have seen crank bearings spin in case and move around. But not good.

Now on some poulans the tolerances are less and there is some crank movement side to side through good crank bearings. But never seen a husky do this if it is right.

Sounds to me like the stubs are spun in the bearings. Give green loctite a try, let it cure for a good while before running it.

Thanks for the replys, yes this is the big rod end of the crank, just a little side movement. No up or down movement. Its still bolted together.
Now Cut4fun say thats ok.
Now SquareFile wants me to try locktite.
If I had to I can change the crankcase, only Right? But if i am that far then i might as well change the crank also.
I could use the 390xp crankcase , but not the crankshaft ?
Maybe just turn a blind eye to this beast and bolt everything together till it explode ?
Thanks for the replys guys

SF was talking about the side to side on the crank going through crank bearing not the big end.
I was guessing on both just in case I was wrong on which you were asking about. He just went with 2nd one.
