Howdy Gents,

Which saw would you have?

My concern is parts availability in the future.

I am over the "cool sound" of the 288, which it does, but I would rather have a saw that can buck wood.. that a saw that sounds cool when I find parts for it.

What is your opinion...

The 575 might have some commonality with the 576 which is current production. This saw would have better parts availability.

Of those 2 I'd probably keep the 288. There's a lot of stuff that doesn't cross over to the 576 and I don't expect it to stay in production much longer either when they finally release the 372 replacement.

I thought the 372XP replacement was the 372XP X-torq?

It is not?

Suppose to be.   Also EHP was saying it might have got killed too. I hope not. New 70cc and 90cc would be nice. Stihl got the 461 and 661. Husky has  :'( :'(

Hard to find cylinders for those old time good saws.

We really ought to consider quoting or referencing remarks from EHP about what saws are getting killed. Don't wish to get involved with personal or one-on-one battles, but Ed simply does not have accurate enough info to be making these statements. I can't talk details, but it has not "been killed".

Back on topic, I wouldn't pick the 575 over the 288 based on parts avaiability. 575 stuff would in theory be around longer due to it being the more recent saw, but it's a little more complicated than that. The 288 is still being produced in other parts of the world such as Brazil, and parts will continue to be available long after stuff for other 2xx series saws becomes NLA. Also, you have to consider the aftermarket sources. There are already plenty of AM parts for the 288's out there. There are just a few for the 575 and I don't think that saw is popular enough that the AM world will embrace that chassis like they have with the 288 and other saws. Then there's dealer inventory. Field inventory will always be better for saws that were more popular, so 288 parts will linger out there for a long time, while most dealers will never have stocked many 575 parts.

So, 15-20 years from now, which saw will have better parts availability? I'm thinking 288 by a comfortable margin.
