Hmmm...going through a stuff left over and I noticed there is another C-Clip in the package.  However, the piston had one already installed (a black one) when it came in the package so when I installed it I just added one to the other side and moved on....now I'm wondering:  was I supposed to remove the black one already holding one side of the piston pin in???

Both the H and L screws were to the stops (CCW -- left) so no adjustment left there.  The T can be adjusted left though.
You need to trim the limiters if it's all the way against them already. If not you'll be repeating this again.

The circlips lately have been coming with both one with ears and ones without.

DONE!  Local shop had the spring so I was able to get it finished.  Now to test it out this weekend on a job.

As for the C-Clips -- hmmm....the one inserted already had an ear on it as it was in my way positioning the wrist pin but I left it alone and worked around it so I should be fine.

As for the limitters, I'll have to do some research.

I also wonder if the excess smoke is from the 40:1 fuel I'm running as it will have more oil in it so maybe it's burning that off.  I'll know more, I think, when I run it to break it in but I hate to do that without making sure I'm rich enough!

Do you have a tach to measure the rpm's ? If not i would buy one. that way if you cant tune them by ear you know that you are not too lean.  very nice job on your rebuild. Here is a thread with a lot of info on tachs. http://chainsawrepair.createaforum.com/stickys-of-how-to-basics/chainsaw-tachometer-choices/

Look at numbers 50 and 51 they are the limiter caps for the high and low speed screws. the ears on the two caps need to be removed so that the carb adjustment screws will move to a richer setting. You will need to a least remove the black grommet to gain access to the screws be able to trim them. You may have to remove the carb to get to them. I am not real familiar with that model.

Thanks for the tacho links!  I'll get one (not sure which just yet).  Will be nice to have in the tool chest anyway and obviously with this big saw I'm going to need something to tune it.

Now, for the those jets.  I'll look to see if I can pull those parts out (51/52)

If I remember right you will need to drill out the black pins in your picture to defeat the limiter.  Just take your time when you drill them. I had to drill the pin out on my stihl 201t with Zama carb. It has the same style limiter caps.

I have one on the bench that looks exactly like that... I have a new top end on the way. Tempted to either deck the cylinder with a popup or just try a no base gasket build to get the squish where I like it then video the results. Any one tweak one of these? Any suggestions other than the typical stuff that works?
