Husky to jonsered crossover parts
« on: May 03, 2016, 04:10:53 pm »
I just got a bunch of chainsaw parts mostly jonsered 630 crank cases with cranks. I know this is for husky topics. Because there were no top covers starters etc. I am looking for information on which husky models have parts that will fit on these cases without to much modification.  Husky oem or aftermarket parts should be easier to find.
I think I see a 672 conversion in my future
Can anyone confirm that a 272 starter and top cover will fit on the 600 series jonsered crank case?

Thanks for the link. a lot of great information in that video.
Unfortunately it did not mention if a starter or the top covers of the husky models will fit on the Jonsered models.
I am thinking they will with the exception of maybe the front screw on the covers as from the video I saw that there are differences even in the husky years of production in the location of the front screw.
Anybody ever fitted a 272 etc.series Husky Starter or Cover on a Jonsered 670 series case

As far as the bolt pattern they will match up.  But I believe the shaft for the starter pulley is alittle longer by 1/2" or so, but you can grind it down to fit over your flywheel bolt to engage your starter dogs.  Your biggest issue when doing this is your pulse line from carb.  The 670 is external, and the 272 is internal.  But you can get around that.

I am almost certain a 272 cover will not fit a 670, but I could be wrong.  If yours is a 1- coil Super model,  it just might.  The Super was the last version before they were replaced, therefore the latest.   The Husky 61 model was changed the same way, when they did away with the 2-coil arrangement.  I believe that when they went to the 1-coil models the top covers bolt pattern was changed too. At least in my experience as I have built a few 61/272 blends.  I used the old white rancher cover to retain the stock look.  Had to cut a hole for the plug boot, but that's all.    Spike & weimedog is much more knowledge-able than I am about these.  Happy building.  :)

I have seen it done on a Jonsered 600 saw - but don't remember which one (or age) - or if modifications were involved...
