Husqavarna 455 Rancher won't start
« on: March 25, 2018, 05:41:43 pm »
Need help.  I've replaced piston/cylinder, all new gas lines, new fuel filter, new spark plug, new carb, new primer bulb.  Has compression and spark.  Can't get the dang thing to fire.  I've torn whole thing apart to piston and cylinder 4 times to make sure everything was put together correctly.  I'm at a loss. Any thoughts/advice?

Is the plug getting wet trying to start?

Not at all.  Took spark plug out before and after.  Bone dry.

Brentlee take some fuel mix and squirt it down into the carb throat and then hold the throttle wide open and see if it will pop.

Repeat that at least a couple of times and if it will not pop pull the plug and see if it is wet or dry.

Right now it sounds like it is not getting fuel.     Let us know what you find.

I meant to mentioned this in the original post, but it does fire on starting fluid.  Also, weirdest thing, I can switch the fuel lines on the primer bulb and suck air from gas tank and "push" air through carb and it will fire, but won't stay running.

Dont use starting fluid IMHO. Use mix like Roger suggested.
Starting fluid has no lubricated for 2 strokes.

You sure you have your lines and carb kit in right orders?  You rebuilt carb or new carb right?

Yes, I believe lines to carb are in right order.  Line comes from gas tank with fuel filter into bottom of carb and exits other side of carb into primer bulb.  Then from bulb to top of tank.  Primer bulb pulls through carb and exits top of tank.  I'll use gas mixture vs staring fluid in future.  Thanks.  I can attach photo tonight of the fuel line setup.  I replaced carb with new one vs rebuilding.  Saw reacts the same with old or new carb.

You should also make sure you stacked the gaskets and diaphragms in the proper order. If you place the gasket in the wrong position, it will not pump fuel. Here is an exploded view of the Walbro WTEA-1 which replaced the WTA-29A

Think he said he bought a new carb and that it does same thing with old carb or new.
