Are the cases and tank housings special made to accept these like the stihls are. Or will they work on saws with regular screw caps. The look good to me though.

They use the same thread. Husqvarna would not waste time and money designing a tank just to fit a $6 cap like Stihl.

Husky thought these through IMO (unlike the stihl ones).  Even IF the flip cap broke off there is a slot inside the cap to remove with flat head screwdriver.

Will these work on the older saws such as a 272XP, 288XP, or 2100CD?

Yes, they pretty much fit everything. Exceptions would be the Partner based saws such as the 40/45 and most of the Poulan derived models.
